Dr. Temple Grandin will lead the transportation of cattle, horses and wagons through downtown Denver.
DENVER — Dr. Temple Grandin, a professor at Colorado State University (CSU), will serve as grand marshal for the 2023 stock exchange show launch parade.
Grandin will lead the traditional cattle, horse and wagon ride through the streets of downtown Denver to kick off the 117th Western National Equity Fair Thursday, January 5.
In addition to being a professor of animal science at CSU, Grandin is a leading author and speaker on autism and animal behavior and was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2017.
“I am honored to be the Grand Marshal of the Stock Show Parade,” Grandin said. “I encourage everyone to visit the Stock Show and see all the animals. The National Western is a great place for kids to get rid of their electronics and discover that real animals are more interesting. I also want to invite everyone to visit the new Temple Grandin Equine Center in the CSU Spur Vida building during the Stock Show.”
The parade begins at noon outside Union Station in Denver and travels twelve blocks down 17th Street to Glenarm Place.
Returning for the first time in 24 months after the pandemic, the Stock Show Parade was canceled in January 2022 due to freezing temperatures.
“It is a great honor to have a legend, visionary and dedicated animal scientist like Dr. Grandin kick off our Stock Show parade,” said Paul Andrews, President and CEO. of the National Western Stock Show. “The impact Temple has had on livestock welfare, animal science and his unique approach to equine therapy for horses and humans is unparalleled in the world today.”

The public is also invited to the first-ever trade show in McGregor Square on Thursday, January 5 from noon to 2 p.m. a food market.
