Lord Venkateswara Temple opened on SVU campus

Tirupati: A long dream of SV University came true on Monday with the inauguration of the Lord Venkateswara Temple on campus. Many circles in the university have called for there to be a single temple of the Lord since it bears his name. TTD provided financial assistance of Rs 29 lakh for the construction of the temple and also provided the idol of the Lord.

The temple was built at the main entrance of the University. Although the university was established in 1954, the decision to build the temple was made after several efforts by student unions, faculty and others during the tenure of the previous government by the TTD trust board headed by Chadalavada Krishna Murthy.

After much delay in the execution of the works, the temple was completed recently, after which the “Samprokshana” rituals took place on Sunday and Monday. The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof. K Raja Reddy, and his wife took part in the rituals. On Sunday evening, the consecration of Kalasa and the main deity was done according to the Vaikhanasa agama tradition in which, together with university officials, TTD Additional EO AV Dharma Reddy participated.

The conduct of the sacrament and submission of Havissu to God was completed on Monday with great devotion and dedication, after which the darshan began. Speaking on the occasion, VC Prof Raja Reddy said it was a grand occasion in the annals of the university’s history.

Prof. Dr. Jamuna, VC of SP Mahila University who also attended believed that the temple environment on campus will instill kind, peaceful and sweet ideas in the minds of students. Rector Prof V Srikanth Reddy and Registrar Prof OMd Hussain were present throughout the programs along with EC members Dr Bhaskar Reddy, Madhu, Prof Madhavi and others.
