Manakamana Temple Bans Entry From Friday – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper

Worshipers will no longer be allowed to enter the popular Manakamana temple in Gorkha from next Friday. A decision has been taken to prohibit entry into the temple given the increased risk of coronavirus infection following the appearance of its new variant, Omicron.

Manakamana area development committee chairman Ramkumar Joshi has informed that the decision was taken to ban devotees from offering worship inside the temple after a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases.

Tuesday’s committee meeting decided to shut down all other programs except for a routine prayer inside the temple starting next Friday, he shared. “The spread rate of coronavirus is increasing day by day,” Joshi said, adding, “The decision was made to avoid the crowd of worshipers to prevent the potential risk of spreading coronavirus.”

He further informed that the decision has been taken to stop prayer-related activities during the month of Magh (mid-February). Devotees coming to the temple for the duration of the closure may only offer prayers outside of the temple rally.

The temple’s chief priest, Insan Bahadur Thapa, shared that up to 5,000 devotees turn up at the temple daily to offer prayers.
