LAHAD DATU: The Indian community here will soon be able to worship in the first Hindu temple in this district. The effort towards this goal has been ongoing since 2003 and is now becoming a reality as a result of the hard work, perseverance and commitment of the Persatuan Penganut Agama. Hindu Lahad Datu. President Ravi Vellan thanked the committee members and the local community.

He said the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple is located on 2.5 acres of land in Layung donated by Ramlal Singh Praser. “Construction started in 2018 and is expected to be completed in August 2023. We conducted the groundbreaking ceremony, earlier this year (Bhoomi Pooja). “The temple is registered with the Registrar of Companies (ROS),” Ravi said during the Majlis Ramah Mesra Deepavali 2022. The function was jointly organized by the association and the Sabah Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC). SICC President Datuk V. Jothi praised the association.

It’s far from easy, but they’ve achieved remarkable success. “I had visited the construction site with my committee members this morning and the construction is almost complete. It would look very nice when fully built,” he said. Before that, Hindus from Lahad Datu were forced to travel at least two hours to Tawau or Sandakan to perform their worship. During the ceremony, SICC also donated RM2,000 to the Association. Jothi said that the SICC has carried out a number of various projects and activities for the benefit of the members since its inception 11 years ago.

It has taken steps to disseminate relevant information relating to trade, industry and other economic sectors to SICC members. He said the SICC decided to promote the chambers by having a “Jelajah” all over Sabah and Lahad Datu was the first destination. The main objectives of the chambers are to cooperate and liaise with other chambers of commerce or economic organizations. In particular, organize or participate in meetings relating to economic issues, trade missions and exhibitions as well as other activities relevant to the promotion of economic cooperation. Jothi thanked all chambers, the Indian and Sikh community of Lahad Datu for their strong support.
