“The Manipur Government will try to allocate a separate grant to the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Council”

Imphal: The state government will attempt to allocate a separate annual grant to the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Council similar to that of the Govindajee Temple Council to promote and retain Sanamahism.

This was stated by Vice Chairman of Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Council, Lourembam Rameshwor Singh, who is also Chairman of the State Planning and Development Authorities.

Rameshwor was speaking at a closing ceremony of a 15-day workshop on Sanamahism’s “Rite-Of-Passage” (Sanamahi Lingning gi Pokpa, Luhongba amasung Korou Nonggabgi Thouramsing) held at Lainingthou Sanamahi Sanglen, Hayingkhongban, Imphal West near the 1st Manipur Rifles South Gate.

For the Meitei community, there is no gathering platform unlike others and for the reason that the community is struggling to bring development, he said and called on people to cooperate to the development of sanamahism.

The resource person for the workshop, Assistant Professor of GP Womens’ College Manipuri Culture and Manipuri Language, Waikhom Romesh said that with the initiatives of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, the workshop was successfully organized. During the workshop, participants learned various knowledge about the traditional culture of Sanamahism and various rules and regulations to be followed in any occasion, from the birth of a child to death.

To pursue a similar workshop, he called on Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Council and Manipur University Culture to sign a Memorandum of Understanding so that such a similar workshop or any other program can be held regularly, a- he added.

At least 255 people took part in the workshop and 25 resource people gave speeches to raise awareness on various topics concerning the culture of Sanamahism.

Certificates were distributed to participants and resource persons who attended the workshop.
